COPMI group – Support group for students who have a family member with a mental problem
If you grew up in a family with a parent (or another family member) having a mental health or addiction problem, there are times of anxiety and stress. Your parent may have found it difficult to talk about their problems, while you have all kinds of questions or want to know if you could be affected too. You may now live far from home, making it even more difficult.
The situation at home affects your daily life. You may feel alone, ashamed, or sad or angry. Maybe you think it is your fault that your father or mother is not doing well. Or other things are at play. For instance, you find it difficult to stand up for yourself, you take over all kinds of tasks from your parent or the contact with friends is difficult.
The COPMI group is for participants aged 16 and older, especially for international students. In a safe environment, you meet peers with whom you can share your experiences. You will learn how to deal with the situation at home, what your role is and that of the other family members and how to live your own life. We provide answers to questions about your parent's illness and behavior.
Upcoming training
You do not need a referral and no file is kept. Participation is free of charge. Meetings are in English. New dates will be announced.
